From what I can gather, almost without exception...you need to format a drive if you wish to upgrade from Beta2 to RC1. I tried uninstalling and installing RC1 and I ran into a series of errors. An RC1 install over an interim build (ie builds between betas, etc.) is not. The reason has to do with stability. The important thing is to get as clean an install as possible. I also had tried to upgrade NT2000 over NT4 (where the fresh partition was sitting before) but it rejected me to a different language. For the beta 2 version(build 1877?) and the rc1 for beta 3 version, I have successful installed by first creating 4 floppy disks and installed by booting from the floppies.
